Italy’s Bicocchi and Rondine del Terriccio win the Snaipay Prize
Italy returned to the highest step of the podium in the first class of the Freccia Rossa Milano Jumping Cup CSIO4* final day at the San Siro Racecourse. After Friday’s win by Paolo Adamo Zuvadelli, it was in today’s 13th class presented by Snaipay (accumulator with joker against the clock - h 1.40m) that there was an exciting performance by Emilio Bicocchi riding Rondine del Terriccio, a chestnut mare born and bred in Italy.
This entirely Italian combination delivered a clear and above all very fast round on the course built by Uliano Vezzani, so fast that they won with a 2”17 lead over Germany’s Richard Vogel, riding Caramba, and 3”97 on Switzerland’s Annina Zuger Hachler riding PB Douglass Chavannais.
The 45-year-old Tuscan rider competing in Milan for the first time, was extremely happy, and after receiving his prize from Massimo Nura (Relationship & Payment Service Manager at Snaitech S.p.A.) said, “Rondine jumped well and was on good form. She is a naturally fast horse and I ran a few risks because Vogel had been very fast, but in the end we made it. I should add that Rondine is a horse that also jumps Grands Prix and perhaps I downgraded her a bit to compete in this class and had enough margin to do well, but now and again it’s a good idea to allow horses to compete in an easier class which is good for their morale. She enjoyed jumping today and then we also won, so things couldn’t have been better.”
